Our Risk chart shows you the difference in the median annual standard deviation (a measure of risk) between the Russell 3000’s dividend paying stocks, and those that don’t pay dividends. As you can see, the risk measured for dividend paying stocks was 16.8 percentage points lower than the risk measured for stocks of companies that didn’t pay dividends.
